Hi there. I'm Luke from Fire and Ice. One of the most common questions we receive from customers is how much does an air conditioner cost? In this video, we will break down the options and show you a range of prices that could work for you.

You might find yourself in a situation where you need to replace your current AC system. After talking with thousands of clients, we found that cost is one of the most common factors in the installation process. We've broken down this video into three categories to show you a range of price options available and the features that are included in each category.

The three categories are entry level, mid-range and high-end air conditioners. In each category, we will break down the price some examples of models in each category. Some of the features included with these air conditioners and who might be right for this type of air conditioner. The one thing to note is that we're going to show you a wide range of prices that may change due to accessories, manufacturer guidelines or your specific heating and cooling needs.

What is the price range for an entry-level air conditioner?

So, let's jump in and see our options for the entry level air conditioners. The price range for entry level air conditioners is about $4,400 to $8,000. Some of the specific models that are included in this category are the XR13 up to the XL16. The main feature of an entry level air conditioner is that it's single stage, which means standard level of cooling.

The best person to use one of these entry level air conditioners would be someone that has lower utility costs, that isn't looking for the high level of savings from the efficiency, or someone who isn't sure that they'll be in the home long term.

What is the price range for a mid-range air conditioner?

Now let's see our options for the mid-range air conditioners. The price for mid-range air conditioners ranges from $6,200 up to $9,500. Some examples of the mid-level category are Trane’s XR17 and XL18. The main feature of the mid and air conditioner is going to be the two-stage cooling. Two stages of cooling has a high and a low cool, which provides a much more even temperature for your home.

Some of the people that might be a good fit for the mid-range air conditioner are people that know they're going to be in the home long term and are looking for the energy savings over that period.

What is the price range for a high-end air conditioner?

Finally, let's take a look at our options for high end air conditioners. The price for a high-end air conditioner range from $8,200 up to $13,000. Some examples of the high-end air conditioners are Trane’s XV18 and XV20. The main feature included with the high-end air conditioner is going to be that it offers variable speed cooling.

Variable speed cooling offers 700 different stages of cooling, which provides the most consistent, even temperature throughout your home. Obviously, everyone can benefit from this high level of air conditioning. However, it might not be right for you, your comfort needs or your home and a lot of that is based off of the type of home that you have and how long you think you might be in the home.
