Common Plumbing Repairs

Faucet Repair & Replacement

Dripping faucets, low pressure, handles that won't turn, or sprayer problems. We repair all faucet types - single-handle, double-handle, pull-down - or replace them if the fixture is worn out. Even a slow drip wastes thousands of gallons per year.

Toilet Repair & Replacement

Running toilets, weak flush, phantom flushing, leaking at the base, or a toilet that won't stop running. Most repairs are straightforward - flapper, fill valve, wax ring. If the bowl is cracked or the toilet is 25+ years old, replacement is often the better investment.

Garbage Disposal Repair & Replacement

Jammed, humming but not spinning, leaking from the bottom, or won't turn on at all. We repair and replace all residential garbage disposal brands. If yours is more than 10 years old and jamming frequently, a new unit is usually more cost-effective than repeated repairs.

Sump Pump Repair & Installation

Sump pump not turning on, running constantly, or making unusual noises. A failed sump pump during heavy rain can mean a flooded basement. We repair, replace, and install new sump pump systems including battery backup units.

Gas Line Repair & Installation

Gas line leaks, new gas line runs for appliances (dryers, stoves, fireplaces, generators), gas shutoff valve replacement, and gas leak testing. All gas work is performed by licensed plumbers and requires a permit in Columbus. If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas company first, then call us.

Shut-Off Valve & Hose Bib Repair

Main shutoff valves that won't turn, leaking supply valves under sinks or toilets, and outdoor hose bibs that drip or have frozen and cracked. Replacing an old gate valve with a modern quarter-turn ball valve is one of the best small plumbing upgrades you can make.

Fixture Installation

New sink, tub, or shower installation and replacement - whether you're remodeling a bathroom, replacing a kitchen sink, or adding a utility sink in the basement. We handle the plumbing connections: supply lines, drain connections, and fixture mounting.

We work with your contractor or handle the project ourselves. We don't do tile or cabinetry, but we handle everything that connects to the plumbing system.

When to Call a Plumber vs. DIY

Call a Plumber

  • ! Gas line work (always - no exceptions)
  • ! Toilet leaking at the base (wax ring or flange)
  • ! Low water pressure throughout the house
  • ! Sump pump failure or installation
  • ! Fixture installation involving supply/drain modifications
  • ! Any repair you've attempted that made things worse

You Can Probably Handle This

  • ✓ Replacing a toilet flapper (most hardware stores carry them)
  • ✓ Tightening a loose faucet handle
  • ✓ Resetting a tripped garbage disposal (the red button on the bottom)
  • ✓ Replacing a showerhead
  • ✓ Plunging a single clogged drain

Not sure? Call and describe the problem - we'll tell you honestly whether you need a plumber.

How Our Plumbing Repairs Work

1

Call or Schedule Online

Describe the problem and we'll get you on the schedule. Emergency? We're available 24/7.

2

Diagnosis

Our plumber arrives with a fully stocked truck, diagnoses the issue, and explains what's going on in plain language.

3

Upfront Estimate

You get a clear estimate - parts, labor, total - before any work begins. No hourly rates, no surprises.

4

Repair & Verification

We complete the repair and test everything before we leave. We clean up after ourselves.

Keep Your Plumbing in Good Shape

  • Know where your main water shutoff valve is. Test it once a year.
  • Don't pour grease down the kitchen sink - it solidifies in your pipes.
  • Replace washing machine hoses every 5 years. Rubber hoses burst without warning.
  • Run water through unused drains monthly to keep P-traps from drying out.
  • Schedule a plumbing inspection if your home is 30+ years old and the supply lines have never been updated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Faucet repair and replacement, toilet repair and replacement, garbage disposal repair and replacement, sump pump repair and installation, gas line repair and installation, fixture installation (sinks, tubs, showers), shut-off valve replacement, hose bib repair, and general pipe repair. For drains, water heaters, sewer lines, or leak detection, we have dedicated services for those as well.
Cost depends on the specific repair. We use flat-rate pricing - you'll get an exact quote before any work begins, not an hourly rate that runs up while the plumber is figuring things out. Common repairs like a toilet flapper or faucet cartridge replacement are on the lower end. Sump pump installation, gas line runs, and fixture replacements are larger jobs. Call us with the details and we'll give you a ballpark before scheduling.
If the issue is a running toilet (flapper, fill valve) or a weak flush, a repair is almost always the right call - these are inexpensive fixes. Consider replacing if: the bowl or tank is cracked, the toilet is 25+ years old and uses 3.5+ gallons per flush (modern toilets use 1.28), you're seeing frequent repairs, or you're remodeling the bathroom anyway. A new toilet pays for itself in water savings over a few years.
Yes. Gas line installation and modification require a permit from the City of Columbus or your local jurisdiction. The permit ensures the work is inspected for safety compliance. Our licensed plumbers handle the permit process as part of the job - you don't need to pull it yourself.
Warning signs: the pump runs constantly or cycles on and off rapidly, makes grinding or rattling noises, doesn't turn on when the pit fills with water, or is more than 10 years old. If heavy rain is in the forecast and you're not sure your sump pump is working, test it by pouring a bucket of water into the pit - the pump should turn on and pump it out within seconds. If it doesn't, call before the storm arrives.
Yes. We run new gas lines for stoves, dryers, fireplaces, outdoor grills, and generators. This includes running the line from your existing gas supply, installing a shutoff valve at the appliance, pressure-testing the line, and pulling the required permit. Gas line work must be done by a licensed plumber - it's not a DIY project.

I had a positive experience with Fire and Ice in the past and my AC installation was even better. Brandon and DQ were very professional. Not only was the install super clean with an impressive 4 fitting duct bend sealed tight, but I needed to work from home during the install and I barely heard them throughout the day. I’ll be recommending F&I to all my friends.

We had 2 AC systems relocated and replaced. Roger (our sales contact), spent most of the day with us calculating the load and measuring the house to ensure proper equipment sizing. Roger was very responsive in helping select a proper and sound location to install the new systems. He came out 3 times to answer questions and inspect the retaining wall/pad. On the day of install, Bryan, Nick and Luke were on time and very respectful of the home. They worked tirelessly the entire day (8am - 6pm) removing the old evaporator(s) and installing the new compressors. Everything was done neatly both inside and out. I would highly recommend their service to anyone considering a new system(s). We just followed up with a pair of new furnaces. Fast scheduling and efficient installation. Luke and Brandon protected the floor and cleaned up after the install.

Brandon was the one who installed our new furnace. He was punctual and very professional. Our new furnace is working great and couldn’t be happier with how it looks. Bryan the sales rep was very informational without being pushy and helped us make the best decision for our house. I recommend anyone who needs a new Hvac unit to call fire and ice.

The sales experience with Luke was great. The installation team of Demetrius, Tyler and Hassan was fantastic. They were on time, were very thorough and did a great job. They take pride in their work and it shows with the final product. They were very respectful, cleaned up and it was a pleasure having them in our house. I highly recommend all these employees and this company. The company is fortunate to have them.

Fire an Ice installed my furnace two years ago so I decided to use them to install my new a/c. Bryan did a great job reviewing all my options and working to get the financing that worked for me. He was also very patient with me and answered all my questions. Demetrius and Will did an amazing job! Considering all the work they did, they were done in four hours. I’m very pleased and would recommend Fire and Ice to anyone needing HVAC services
