Furnace Services
in Columbus, OH

Repair, installation, replacement, and annual maintenance for all residential furnace types. Our factory-trained technicians service gas and electric furnaces across all brands and efficiency levels.

Furnace Heating in Central Ohio

Furnaces are the most common heating system in Columbus-area homes. If your home has supply vents in the floor or ceiling and a thermostat on the wall, you almost certainly have a furnace. They heat air directly and push it through ductwork into every room.

Most homes in central Ohio run gas furnaces, though we service electric units too. Efficiency matters more than most people realize. An older 80% AFUE furnace wastes 20 cents of every dollar you spend on gas. Modern high-efficiency systems recover 96% or more of that fuel energy, which adds up fast over a 20-year lifespan.

Whether it's a strange noise at 2 a.m., a system that won't start on the first cold morning, or a unit that's past its prime, we can assess your furnace during any service visit and give you a straight answer on what it needs.

Types of Residential Furnaces

Single-Stage

One speed: full blast or off. The most common and most affordable furnace type. Simple, reliable, and easy to maintain. Found in most existing Columbus homes. Less efficient and less even heating than two-stage or variable-speed models.

Two-Stage

Two heat output levels: low for milder weather, high for the coldest days. Runs at low stage most of the time, which means quieter operation, more even temperatures, and lower gas bills than single-stage. The mid-range upgrade most homeowners choose.

Variable-Speed (Modulating)

Adjusts output continuously from about 40% to 100% capacity. The most efficient and most comfortable option: near-silent operation, minimal temperature swings, and the lowest gas bills. Premium systems with smart communicating technology.

Is It Time to Repair or Replace?

Consider a Repair If:

  • ✓ Your furnace is less than 15 years old
  • ✓ This is the first major issue
  • ✓ The repair cost is well below 50% of replacement
  • ✓ Your energy bills have been stable

Consider Replacing If:

  • ✗ Your furnace is 20 years old or older
  • ✗ You've had multiple repairs in recent years
  • ✗ Cracked heat exchanger (safety issue, not repairable)
  • ✗ Your system is 80% AFUE or lower and your gas bills keep climbing

Not sure? Our technicians give honest assessments. If a repair makes sense, we'll tell you. We don't push replacements when they aren't needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

We provide complete residential furnace care: repair (including 24/7 emergency service), installation and replacement, and annual tune-ups. We service all brands, gas and electric, with flat-rate pricing and a full estimate before any work begins. Whether you need a same-day repair, want to replace an aging system, or are due for your annual 17-point maintenance, our technicians handle it from diagnosis to completion.
If your furnace runs at one speed (full blast when it's on, completely off when it's not) it's a single-stage unit, the most common type in Columbus homes. If it has two output levels and runs quieter most of the time, it's two-stage. If it adjusts continuously and runs almost silently, it's a variable-speed (modulating) system. You can also check whether your furnace is gas or electric. Gas furnaces have a gas line connection and a flue vent. Electric furnaces have no gas line and no exhaust. Not sure? We can identify your furnace type during any service visit.
Yes. Annual professional service is recommended for safety, efficiency, and to keep your manufacturer's warranty valid. Most furnace warranties require documented annual maintenance, and skipping a year can void your coverage. A routine tune-up includes carbon monoxide testing, heat exchanger inspection, and gas leak detection, which are critical safety checks you can't do yourself. It also catches the worn parts that cause mid-winter breakdowns. Schedule in early fall before heating season starts.

I had a positive experience with Fire and Ice in the past and my AC installation was even better. Brandon and DQ were very professional. Not only was the install super clean with an impressive 4 fitting duct bend sealed tight, but I needed to work from home during the install and I barely heard them throughout the day. I’ll be recommending F&I to all my friends.

We had 2 AC systems relocated and replaced. Roger (our sales contact), spent most of the day with us calculating the load and measuring the house to ensure proper equipment sizing. Roger was very responsive in helping select a proper and sound location to install the new systems. He came out 3 times to answer questions and inspect the retaining wall/pad. On the day of install, Bryan, Nick and Luke were on time and very respectful of the home. They worked tirelessly the entire day (8am - 6pm) removing the old evaporator(s) and installing the new compressors. Everything was done neatly both inside and out. I would highly recommend their service to anyone considering a new system(s). We just followed up with a pair of new furnaces. Fast scheduling and efficient installation. Luke and Brandon protected the floor and cleaned up after the install.

Brandon was the one who installed our new furnace. He was punctual and very professional. Our new furnace is working great and couldn’t be happier with how it looks. Bryan the sales rep was very informational without being pushy and helped us make the best decision for our house. I recommend anyone who needs a new Hvac unit to call fire and ice.

The sales experience with Luke was great. The installation team of Demetrius, Tyler and Hassan was fantastic. They were on time, were very thorough and did a great job. They take pride in their work and it shows with the final product. They were very respectful, cleaned up and it was a pleasure having them in our house. I highly recommend all these employees and this company. The company is fortunate to have them.

Fire an Ice installed my furnace two years ago so I decided to use them to install my new a/c. Bryan did a great job reviewing all my options and working to get the financing that worked for me. He was also very patient with me and answered all my questions. Demetrius and Will did an amazing job! Considering all the work they did, they were done in four hours. I’m very pleased and would recommend Fire and Ice to anyone needing HVAC services
