Boiler Services
in Columbus, OH

Repair, installation, replacement, and annual maintenance for all residential boiler types. Our factory-trained technicians service combi, system, and conventional boilers, including gas and oil.

Boiler Heating in Central Ohio

Boilers are common in older Columbus-area homes. If your home has radiators, baseboard heaters, or radiant floor heating, you have a boiler. They work differently from furnaces: instead of blowing heated air through ducts, a boiler heats water and circulates it through your home.

Many homeowners don't realize their HVAC company services boilers. We do. Our technicians are trained to work on all residential boiler types and handle everything from emergency repair to full system replacement to annual tune-ups.

If you're not sure what type of boiler you have (combi, system, or conventional), we can identify it during any service visit and explain what that means for your maintenance and repair needs.

Boiler in home

Types of Residential Boilers

Combi Boiler

Heats water on demand directly from the mains, so no storage tank or cylinder is needed. The most space-efficient option and the most common choice for new installations. Best for smaller homes (1-3 bedrooms) or homes with limited space.

System Boiler

Heats water from the mains and stores it in a hot water cylinder. Can serve multiple taps and showers simultaneously without losing flow. Best for larger homes (3-5 bedrooms) with multiple bathrooms.

Conventional Boiler

Uses a cold water tank (typically in the attic) and a hot water cylinder. Works reliably with any water pressure and can deliver high hot water volume. Best for older homes with existing radiator systems and homes with low mains water pressure.

Is It Time to Repair or Replace?

Consider a Repair If:

  • ✓ Your boiler is under 10 years old
  • ✓ This is the first major issue
  • ✓ The repair cost is well below 50% of replacement
  • ✓ Parts are readily available for your model
  • ✓ Your energy bills have been stable

Consider Replacing If:

  • ✗ Your boiler is over 15 years old
  • ✗ You've had 3 or more repairs in the past year
  • ✗ Visible corrosion on the body or connections
  • ✗ Persistent leaks that keep returning after repair
  • ✗ Cracked heat exchanger (safety issue)
  • ✗ Parts are becoming unavailable

Not sure? Our technicians give honest assessments. If a repair makes sense, we'll tell you. We don't push replacements when they aren't needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

We provide complete residential boiler care: repair (including emergency), installation and replacement, and annual tune-ups and maintenance. We service all types, including combi, system, and conventional boilers, gas and oil. Whether you need a same-day repair, want to replace an aging system, or are due for your annual service, our technicians handle it from diagnosis to completion with transparent pricing.
If your boiler heats water on demand with no separate storage tank, it's a combi boiler. If it has a hot water cylinder but no cold water tank in the attic or loft, it's a system boiler. If it has both a cylinder and a separate cold water tank, it's a conventional boiler. Not sure? We can identify your boiler type during any service visit and explain what that means for your maintenance and repair options.
Yes. Annual professional service is recommended for safety, efficiency, and to maintain your manufacturer's warranty. Most boiler warranties require documented annual service, and skipping a year can void your coverage. A routine tune-up catches the problems that cause mid-winter breakdowns: worn ignition components, small leaks, scale buildup, and degrading safety controls. Schedule in early fall before heating season starts.

I had a positive experience with Fire and Ice in the past and my AC installation was even better. Brandon and DQ were very professional. Not only was the install super clean with an impressive 4 fitting duct bend sealed tight, but I needed to work from home during the install and I barely heard them throughout the day. I’ll be recommending F&I to all my friends.

We had 2 AC systems relocated and replaced. Roger (our sales contact), spent most of the day with us calculating the load and measuring the house to ensure proper equipment sizing. Roger was very responsive in helping select a proper and sound location to install the new systems. He came out 3 times to answer questions and inspect the retaining wall/pad. On the day of install, Bryan, Nick and Luke were on time and very respectful of the home. They worked tirelessly the entire day (8am - 6pm) removing the old evaporator(s) and installing the new compressors. Everything was done neatly both inside and out. I would highly recommend their service to anyone considering a new system(s). We just followed up with a pair of new furnaces. Fast scheduling and efficient installation. Luke and Brandon protected the floor and cleaned up after the install.

Brandon was the one who installed our new furnace. He was punctual and very professional. Our new furnace is working great and couldn’t be happier with how it looks. Bryan the sales rep was very informational without being pushy and helped us make the best decision for our house. I recommend anyone who needs a new Hvac unit to call fire and ice.

The sales experience with Luke was great. The installation team of Demetrius, Tyler and Hassan was fantastic. They were on time, were very thorough and did a great job. They take pride in their work and it shows with the final product. They were very respectful, cleaned up and it was a pleasure having them in our house. I highly recommend all these employees and this company. The company is fortunate to have them.

Fire an Ice installed my furnace two years ago so I decided to use them to install my new a/c. Bryan did a great job reviewing all my options and working to get the financing that worked for me. He was also very patient with me and answered all my questions. Demetrius and Will did an amazing job! Considering all the work they did, they were done in four hours. I’m very pleased and would recommend Fire and Ice to anyone needing HVAC services
