Boiler Installation
in Columbus, OH

Whether you're replacing an aging boiler or installing a new one, we size the system to your home, install it right, and test it thoroughly before we leave. Transparent pricing, no surprises.

Signs It's Time for a New Boiler

Age

Your boiler is over 15-20 years old. Even well-maintained boilers lose efficiency with age, and parts become harder to source. A modern system can cut your heating costs significantly.

Frequent Breakdowns

Three or more repairs in the past year means the system is wearing out across multiple components. At some point, the next repair is just postponing the inevitable.

Visible Corrosion

Rust or corrosion on the boiler body, connections, or pipes signals that the system is deteriorating from the inside out. Once corrosion is visible externally, internal damage is likely worse.

Persistent Leaks

Leaks that keep coming back after repair indicate failing seals, corroded internals, or a cracked heat exchanger. Repeated leak repairs add up fast.

Rising Energy Bills

If your heating bills keep climbing despite regular maintenance, your boiler's efficiency has degraded beyond what tune-ups can restore. A modern high-efficiency boiler can recover 90-98% of fuel energy compared to 70-80% for older units.

Cracked Heat Exchanger

This is a safety issue, not just a performance one. A cracked heat exchanger can allow carbon monoxide into your home. In most cases, heat exchanger replacement costs enough that a full system replacement is the better investment.

What Happens During Installation

Most boiler replacements are completed in 1-3 days depending on the scope of work.

1

Assessment & Sizing

A technician evaluates your home's heating needs, inspects the existing system, and calculates the correct boiler size. This accounts for your home's square footage, insulation, number of bathrooms, and Ohio's climate. Proper sizing prevents the two most common problems: an oversized system that wastes fuel and wears out faster, or an undersized one that can't keep up in extreme cold.

2

Equipment Selection

Based on the assessment, we recommend a boiler that fits your home and budget. We carry multiple efficiency tiers, from standard (80-89% AFUE) to high-efficiency condensing models (90-98% AFUE). We explain the tradeoffs in plain language so you can make an informed decision.

3

Old System Removal & Preparation

The existing boiler is safely isolated, drained, and removed. We adjust pipework as needed for the new unit and prepare the installation area.

4

Installation, Flush & Connection

The new boiler is fitted and connected. We perform a full system flush to remove debris, sludge, and sediment. Skipping this step can void the manufacturer's warranty and shorten the new system's life. Gas pressure and safety checks are completed before the system goes live.

5

Testing & Walkthrough

We test the system in full operation: heating output, water pressure, radiator distribution, and safety controls. Then we walk you through how to operate and maintain your new boiler, including how to read the pressure gauge and when to call for service.

Like-for-like replacement: typically 1 day. Type change or relocation: 2-3 days. We give you a timeline during the assessment.

Boiler Efficiency: What the Numbers Mean

High-Efficiency (Condensing): 90-98% AFUE

Captures heat from exhaust gases that standard boilers vent away. The highest fuel efficiency available. Higher upfront cost, lowest operating cost over the system's 15-25 year lifespan.

Mid-Efficiency: 80-89% AFUE

The standard for most new installations. A solid balance of purchase price and fuel savings. Meets current minimum efficiency requirements.

Older Systems: 70-79% AFUE

Common in aging boilers. Up to 30% of fuel energy is lost as waste heat. Upgrading from 70% to 95% AFUE on a $2,000/year gas bill saves roughly $500 per year, and the difference pays for itself over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

A like-for-like replacement (same boiler type in the same location) typically takes one day. If we're changing to a different boiler type, relocating the unit, or upgrading pipework, expect 2-3 days. We'll give you a specific timeline during the assessment so you can plan around it. You'll have limited heating and hot water during the installation, so we try to schedule outside of the coldest months when possible.
The cost of a new boiler depends on the boiler type, efficiency rating, home size, and installation complexity. High-efficiency condensing models (90-98% AFUE) cost more upfront but save significantly on fuel over their 15-25 year lifespan, and the difference often pays for itself. We provide detailed quotes with parts, labor, and total cost before any work begins. No hidden fees, no surprise charges.
Sizing depends on your home's square footage, insulation quality, number of bathrooms, and Ohio's cold climate. An oversized boiler wastes fuel and wears out faster from short-cycling. An undersized one runs constantly and can't keep up on the coldest days. We do a proper load calculation to get the sizing right for your specific home.

I had a positive experience with Fire and Ice in the past and my AC installation was even better. Brandon and DQ were very professional. Not only was the install super clean with an impressive 4 fitting duct bend sealed tight, but I needed to work from home during the install and I barely heard them throughout the day. I’ll be recommending F&I to all my friends.

We had 2 AC systems relocated and replaced. Roger (our sales contact), spent most of the day with us calculating the load and measuring the house to ensure proper equipment sizing. Roger was very responsive in helping select a proper and sound location to install the new systems. He came out 3 times to answer questions and inspect the retaining wall/pad. On the day of install, Bryan, Nick and Luke were on time and very respectful of the home. They worked tirelessly the entire day (8am - 6pm) removing the old evaporator(s) and installing the new compressors. Everything was done neatly both inside and out. I would highly recommend their service to anyone considering a new system(s). We just followed up with a pair of new furnaces. Fast scheduling and efficient installation. Luke and Brandon protected the floor and cleaned up after the install.

Brandon was the one who installed our new furnace. He was punctual and very professional. Our new furnace is working great and couldn’t be happier with how it looks. Bryan the sales rep was very informational without being pushy and helped us make the best decision for our house. I recommend anyone who needs a new Hvac unit to call fire and ice.

The sales experience with Luke was great. The installation team of Demetrius, Tyler and Hassan was fantastic. They were on time, were very thorough and did a great job. They take pride in their work and it shows with the final product. They were very respectful, cleaned up and it was a pleasure having them in our house. I highly recommend all these employees and this company. The company is fortunate to have them.

Fire an Ice installed my furnace two years ago so I decided to use them to install my new a/c. Bryan did a great job reviewing all my options and working to get the financing that worked for me. He was also very patient with me and answered all my questions. Demetrius and Will did an amazing job! Considering all the work they did, they were done in four hours. I’m very pleased and would recommend Fire and Ice to anyone needing HVAC services
