Hi, I’m Luke from Fire & Ice. Each year we work with thousands of Central Ohio residents to customize their HVAC systems and are often asked if there is a reliable yet affordable furnace that provides comfort throughout the winter. One of the best budget-friendly, reliable furnaces on the market is the Trane S8X2 gas furnace.

In this video we’re going to cover:

  •  What are the features of the Trane S8X2?
  • What is the Efficiency Rating for the S8X2?
  • Who’s the right fit for this furnace?
  • How much does the S8X2 cost?
  • And finally, what to do next.

By the end of this video you’ll know if the Trane S8X2 gas furnace is right for you and your home.

What are the features of the Trane S8X2?

Let’s dive right in and look into the features of the Trane S8X2. First off, is its two-stage gas valve. A two-stage gas valve allows your furnace to operate in two capacities, at 100% and at a lower capacity between 60 and 70% unlike a single-stage furnace where it is either on or off. This allows you to have more control over the temperature in your home at a lower initial cost than with modulating furnaces.

Next, is its efficient ECM blower motor which is designed to be over 20% more efficient than older fixed speed motors. The ECM motor is designed to provide a consistent flow of comfortable air, while operating quietly and efficiently year-round.

Lastly, the S8X2 uses a smaller, insulated cabinet made from heavy steel. The smaller cabinet is designed to fit in virtually any home, be airtight, and provide quieter operation.

What’s the efficiency rating for the S8X2?

The Trane S8X2’s is considered a standard efficiency furnace with an AFUE efficiency rating of 80%. This means up to 80% of the fuel that is used goes towards heating the home, the other 20% is exhausted as waste. We can also look at this in terms of money. For every dollar spent on fuel, up to 80 cents goes towards heating your home with the remainder being exhausted out of your flue.

Who's the right fit for the Trane S8X2?

You may be wondering, is the Trane S8X2 right for me and my home? The Trane S8X2 gas furnace would be ideal for homes who are currently experiencing hot and cold spots during the winter. If you feel a difference in temperature between rooms the S8X2’s two-stage gas valve will help provide even temperatures throughout your home.

If you currently have a single-stage gas furnace, or one that is either on 100% or off, and are annoyed by its loud operation, the Trane S8X2 may be a good solution due to its heavy steel insulated cabinet and two-stage gas valve. Additionally, its smaller cabinet size is ideal for homeowners who are tight on space or have their furnace in a closet. Although the smaller cabinet size can cause increased static pressure and reduce airflow there are modifications that can be done during installation to maximize airflow.

The Trane S8X2 gas furnace is not ideal for homeowners who are looking to reduce their utility bills with a high efficiency furnace or are currently experiencing hot and cold spots or other air flow issues during the summer months.

How much does the Trane S8X2 cost?

Now for the question everyone is wondering, “what does it cost”. The Trane S8X2 furnace can cost between $3,300 and $5,280. This price includes the cost of equipment, labor, and all that is needed for a proper installation of the furnace. There are several factors that can affect the price of a new furnace installation, such as: The size of the home, filters or other indoor air quality products, the location of the system and any changes that may be needed during installation. For comparison, a new furnace replacement can range between $3,300 to $8,360 making the Trane S8X2 a reliable gas furnace that can fit most budgets.
